Why Recced: Don't be put off by the warnings! This is a dramatic, character driven friendship fic.
It starts with John and Rodney's two separate points-of-view with both of them trying to survive as Runners across a decimated world. As they journey it is the strength of their friendship which helps fuel their survival, in addition to the combination of their personal qualities and skills. Even apart they keep referring to what the other would say or do. This is despite an amnesic John not even being able to remember who "Rodney" is! The childhood details for both of them are beautifully done.
An interesting touch is that every chapter, with the exception of the Epilogue, starts with an excerpt from the US Army Ranger Handbook.
