Yes but...

The Generation which has grown old without ever growing up insisted on forcing Iraq into that mold. That the fit was absurd at best seems to have been lost on them.

I never really felt that Vietnam was an appropriate comparison to Iraq. It was a different time, a different place and a different situation. Compared to Iraq, Vietnam was pretty unwinnable regardless of what Cronkite thought of it.

Ah, no.

The insurgency in Vietnam died during the Tet Offensive. Afterwards the Viet Cong were no longer a factor (General Giap is clear on this in his memoirs).

The Republic of Vietnam fell to the second conventional invasion attempt by the North. The first such invasion was defeated with material and aerial assistance from the United States.

We only "lost" when we packed up, went home, and failed to abide by our treaty obligations.
