Tech 1: Breaking closed guard
Start under closed guard
1. Lock opponent's butt with knees, posture up
2. Both hands grab each collar near solar plexus
3. Use one hand to grab both collars, twist
4. Grab pants with other hand, crush opponent's pelvis with palm heel
5. Block opponent's butt (same side as arm with collar grip) with knee
6. Place weight on forearm/elbow (same side as arm with pants grip) while #7
7. Step foot as far back as you can
8. Apply pressure until guard breaks, end in triangle base
Notes:
- always keep elbows in

Tech 2: Closed Guard to Side Control transition
Continue from Tech 1
1. After opening closed guard, maintain grips
2. Grip both knees, keep them flat to the ground
3. Pull legs outwards and stand up, maintaining pressure on knees
4. Move around opponent, use shoulder to pin opponent's solar plexus. Do not let go of knee grip closest to you
5. Crossface opponent with shoulder
6. Hook one arm under head, establish underhook on the other
7. Get your knees to hit your elbows and turtle
Notes:
- only post on feet to maintain pressure on opponent
- upon turtle, balance weight between yourself and opponent to avoid getting thrown while maintaining pressure

Open Mat Tech 1: Hip bump sweep from full mount to opponent's closed guard
Start with opponent on full mount
1. Get one opponent's arm to opposite side
2. Block the foot of the same side of the arm. Heel must hit butt as much as possible
3. Grab knee on the opposite side of pants
4. Bump up, simultaneously pulling with knee grip
Notes:
- Keep elbows in when not in use
- Block opponent's legs from getting closer to you while in full mount

Open Mat Tech 2: Escape from full mount to half guard
Start with opponent on full mount
1. Wait for opportunity to create space between you and your opponent's legs
2. Place both hands on either of opponent's legs
3. Push with hands, shrimp backwards
4. Immediately establish half-guard

Open Mat Tech 3: Defense from wedged knee when jumping guard (Kenji)
- Slide knee into the guard

Open Mat Tech 4: Defense from wedged knee when jumping guard (TJ)
1. Get wrist grips of opponent
2. Slide out into open guard, push using opponents hips as anchors
3. Push blocking knee outwards using foot
4. Slide back into closed guard
