To Sherlock, she is and perhaps will always be The Woman.

The only member of my sex who can compare in any way with the one and only Irene Adler.

I can only wonder how well FBI Agent Betancourt and Adler would have gotten along. Was Irene as retortful and snarky as Nikki is?

"Were they flirting or insulting each other?" Captain Gregson asked me once, after a particularly unsettling case required his department to work with the FBI. "Normally I can tell, where Holmes is concerned, just what he's doing; even if I don't always get what he's up to."

In one regard, I am not happy about this. The world needs a snarky Sherlock Holmes, like it needs Godzilla in Kansas.

In all other ways, I'm glad they've met and are getting along so well. Sherlock may not wish for a sponsor, and Nikki may or may not think about it, and perhaps or perhaps not Sherlock will consider getting a sponsor for her sake... but half the job of a sponsor is to keep the person engaged and involved in the world, so the person will not feel an urge to retreat to the world they had just escaped from. Nikki fills that role.

I just don't want to hear about any other roles she's filling.
