"Hey boss, I got that file you asked fff....." Grace said, trailing off when, on entering the space where she and her team usually worked, she noticed who was sitting at the pizza table with two of her male coworkers.
"Thanks," Lisbon said, herself having avoided looking at the gathering, and not about to ask what was going on. There was, after all, every chance that it could be perfectly straightforward and simple -- but with Jane at the table, Lisbon wouldn't bet on that being the case.
"Um, what's going on?" Grace asked the guys.
Coming over to hand in what he had found out, Cho said, "Staring contest."
So I was right? Lisbon wondered.
"Come on, dad, that's not fair," Grace said.
"He's winning," Rigsby assured Grace, though he wasn't entirely sure if it was impressive or scary how their mentalist was getting a figurative ass-kicking.
"Not surprising. Come on, dad, stop cheating and tell me why you came all the way out here."
"To see my little red," her dad said, turning around and leaving the contest. He stood up, and yet again, Rigsby was startled by how the elder Van Pelt wasn't a towering skyscraper. "And I figured I would stop in and give my appraisal of that boy you said you're seeing."
"Um, while I mentioned that a few years ago -" Grace said.
"At least your dad gets around to noticing what you write down for him," Lisbon muttered to her.
"I'm glad you're here. So, what do you think of - ?"
"Cho's an industrious boy. Gets my stamp of approval," her dad said. "I know you mentioned Rigsby, red, but I know you know I used to tell you stories of how, when I was as old as you are now, I helped my buddies in much the same way you are."
"Oh God," Grace muttered. "So you think I said I was involved with Wayne...in the hope you and everyone else wouldn't suspect I was in a relationship with Kimball?"
Her dad nodded.
"Hm, wish I'd thought of that at the time," Jane said.
Resisting yet another temptation to throw something at him, Grace ignored Jane. "Actually, dad, it's not Cho I was -"
"Please, red, don't tell me you're with that Jane boy - you'd snap his neck."
"Oh I believe she's contemplated it," Jane said.
"We all have," Lisbon said.
