Title: Sooner or…
Fandom: Private Practice.
Written for: Purpleyin.
Request: Private Practice: Violet and Cooper.
Rating: PG-15.
Warning: If you don’t like the theme song to ‘Land of the Lost,’ don’t worry: he only sings one line.
Spoilers: In which we meet Addison, In which Addison finds the magic.
Premise: Two possibilities occurred to me, both hinging on the same initial event: Violet, Cooper, and a car wreck. This is the first possibility (‘or after’ is the second possibility)
Summary: The wreck takes place before any hanky-panky.

I open my eyes - it was just a blink, I’m positive - and I’m sitting on the street, my back lying against a car that’s parked along the curb. Hey, I can see my car from here; the front end’s smashed up, and I can see where the firefighters pulled me and Cooper out (he’s sitting next to me, the door’s between us and my car).
Why don’t I remember? Must’ve hit my…lost the last few hours of short-term memory. Hippocampus and the -
“We open up our door, find dinosaur,” Cooper sings, surprisingly on-key, “living in the land of the lost…” I look at him, and he’s looking a little pale. Firefighters must’ve just pulled us out, which means the ambulance’ll be here any minute now.
Only Cooper’s looking like he’s about to doze off, and… damnit, I took the course that said what a guy’s odds were once he loses conciousness, but bedamned if I can remember it.
“Cooper,” I say, lightly slapping his cheek to get his attention. “Stay with me here, okay?”
He looks at me without turning his head (okay, that means his pupils aren’t fixed), and gives me a cute smile that’s only ruined by a little drool seeping out. “You rre pretty,” he tells me, a solemn pronouncement by the sound of it.
I was in the car - I’m pretty sure I was in this car - with him - why? There’s nobody else in here, so we can’t have been transporting anyone. Were we on our way to see a patient?
Okay, I need to keep him awake and attentive. Think, think - of course!
I whisper in his ear, telling him when I lost my virginity and a few other choice secrets. If he pulls through, he’s never going to let me forget that I told him.
You’d better pull through, Cooper.
He perks up, looking at me attentively, like I’m going to finish a bedtime story for him. Yep, that worked. I mutter something while looking around; I stop when I see who’s across the street talking to a cop. Wait a minute. That’s my -
Is that what happened? We were on our way to pick up a patient, and en route, I see my ex, and… and then what? I tried to grab the steering wheel from Cooper? That really doesn’t sound like me. And I know what I’m capable of.
Most days.
Shit. So its my fault, then?
Doesn’t matter. “Cooper?” I ask. “Help’s here,” I tell him as the paramedics jog up to us and set up their portable equipment.
“Cool,” he says, and waits until they’re about to cart him away to the ambulance before he says, “So,” Cooper asks me, “does this mean we’re still good for our date?”
Ha. Ha. Funny.
Rather than answer, I just give him a Look that’s supposed to warn him not to be silly.
He grins.
“Question,” I say to one of the paramedics passing by, “what’s today’s date?”

“Losing…yeah,” leaving it at that. The light goes on behind his eyes. “You want me to help you relive the experience?” Cooper asks me.
“Hell no!” I tell him.
“Oh,” he says, and starts to back away.
“I was thinking we could improve on the memory.”
