1. Comment to this post with "I surrender!" and I'll assign you the basis of some tv show idea. (Science fiction show, medical drama, criminal procedure, etc...)
2. Create a cast of characters, including the actors who'd play them
3. Add in any actor photos, character bios and show synopsis that you want.
4. Post to your own journal.

(#4 is optional)

Sororcula prompted me with Medical Dramedy (drama comedy), so...

For fifty years now, there has been no wars, no regional conflicts, nothing more deadly than the proverbial Mexican Standoff.

But simply because the nations' of the world's armies are all on standby, does not for a second reduce the need for hospitals. And even doctors need to blow off steam. Welcome to St. Sina, a busy place when there is
Peace On Earth

Cast:
Ann Vanderlee - Alexandra Stoddart
Harris Hawk III - Chris Gorham
Ysabel Meek - Claudia Harrison
Tom Grant - Alan Alda
Irene Paddington - Alexandra Castillo

Ann Vanderlee
"Just so I make sure I get this right - you're god here."
"For all intents and purposes, yes."
"D'you prefer incense, blood, or prayers?"
"Loyalty and obedience."
"Damn."
-Harris, Ann.

The commander in chief of St. Sina, the head medical official. She tends to grant leniency in accordance with how well one does their job and arrives punctually to operations - "leniency" in the sense of how hard she comes down on those who break one rule or another.

Ann styles herself a modern samuri - in terms of self-discipline, and attentiveness to the arts (she says its the only reason she goes anywhere near flower-arranging classes).

Harris Hawk III
"You were the bad example my mother warned me about."
"I don't know about that - I prefer to think I was giving the old college 110% to everything."
-Ysabel, Harris.

Harrison Hawk III, scion of an old and monied Boston brahmin family, with a top-class education. Harris is a seasoned master of making jokes and winning prank wars.

Over the course of season 1, we gradually learn that Harris has come to St. Sina because of a challenge he set himself: to do something important with his life, without losing his sense of humor.

Ysabel Meek
"I know why you're here, Meek. You're not the first of your sort to sign up for duty here."
"Problem, Doctor?"
"Not yet, and don't make one."
--Ann, Ysabel.

By her own admission, Ysabel is a doctor because she can't be a combat medic - no wars, after all. She is registered on the Reservist List, ready to be called up if that changes, though.

That said, Ysabel strives to be the best she possibly can at her current profession. And unlike some strivers who don't like to be outshone, Ysabel cannot stand working around people she considers slackers (people putting in the bare minimum of effort to get a job done), and rightly or wrongly, she considers Harris and Paddy to be slackers.

While Harris tends to end up butting heads with Ann, Ysabel usually ends up at loggerheads with Tom. Often but not always, these disagreements center around the need for conflict to advance medical science and technologies.

Tom Grant
"I was just -"
"Oh I know what you were doing. I used to do those things when I was your age too. Though, granted, I was better."
"And you stopped, why? Wait, don't tell me - life happened."
"Close. Loss happened. You find someone who becomes the center of your universe, and when they're not around..."
-Harris, Tom.

Old enough to remember the days of wars, Tom wouldn't like things to return to that state of affairs. On the other hand, he at times waxes poetic about whether or not the present system is better than the one it replaced.

While he accepts good-natured humor about what life was like "Way Back Then", there are certain lines in the sand which Tom doesn't permit people to cross when he's in earshot.

Many LJ communities have sprung up around Tom's love life (and suspicions thereof)...

Irene Paddington
"Layabout."
"Right, like you never gave a thought to how comfy these beds are."
-Ysabel, Irene.

Nicknamed "Paddy," Irene has made the biggest horizontal transfer of any of the main characters: once an equestrian with a practice in farm medicine, Irene has since joined St. Sina's in treating people.

Over the course of season 1, we learn why she made the transfer: during the course of her vet practice, she tried to save her fiancee's life on a riding trail, and failed. While some would bury their feelings in their work, Irene instead disguises her feelings with jokes.

Trivia:
* Alexandra Stoddart was previously in the M*A*S*H episode Nurse Doctor.
* Another M*A*S*H alumnus, Alan Alda joined the cast late in season 1, though he made time to provide his voice for scenes in early season 1.
* The name of the hospital - St. Sina - is not drawn from Sinai...but from Ibn Sina, a prominent doctor and medical expert.
* The phrase "Stop hawkeyeing about." which Alan Alda's character says to Chris Gorham's, is a reference to 'Hawkeye Pierce,' played by Alan Alda in M*A*S*H. It was also not in the script.
