only when the characters' voices are too similar to one another. (both in terms of the accent, the tempo, and the sound of the voice - ie, Jo Harvelle's is like Nikki Bettancourt's in tempo, even if Jo and Amita have similar sounds to their voices)
though I do try to only write one fandom at a time (or a crossover)...unless they're due the same week, in which case I either juggle them, or I start on one and hope I finish in time to do justice to the other one.

you just ID-ed the reason I ask my betas if I got the voices right.
when I write, I listen to the voice of the character (or, if that's unavailable, the actor's voice in another role), and make sure I can hear the character saying the lines.
...sort of. see, I don't type and then listen - I type as I'm listening to the character talk.
(that's why music vids give me ideas, but I can't fic from a vid)
