>.> I worry about today's youth that 'golem' means little to them except as 'Gollum'. I know there is a myth/legend/story about what happened to Leigh (that is, assuming she was literal in her heart was ripped out and that's what was in the box), but I'm having trouble tracking it down. Too many books with too few decent indexes!

There's a Norse myth involving Sigurd eating the heart, Aztecs would often rip out hearts of maidens for sacrifice, the Egyptian believed hearts were weighed against the feather of truth, an old highly questionable version of Cupid/Psyche's story involved Psyche losing her heart when she unveils who Cupid is and must win it (and Cupid) back within a certain timeframe (but as I said, highly questionable, the book is from 1905, and the notes in the margin question the translation), and I know there is at least ONE asian myth regarding the heart, but I don't have many books on asian folk tales...

well obviously Simon did, but he was Alpha so that doesn't count. Brett does, but Lucas made him de facto Alpha of the teen group. Lucas does (and presumably his mother now as well), but he became Alpha for a time. Has anyone else been keeping secrets?

I don't think its a magical thing (like in a lot of mythos about werewolves where its a compulsion), but a purely animal thing related to the fact they're wolves. Obviously the teens could shrug off the mantle of rules to run outside of the Gates even when expressly forbid too. Brett didn't seem unduly worried about Lucas' reaction to his balking the consensus not to run. The Coach seemed more afraid of what Simon would do physically then any other reason if he interfered.

I wonder what happened when Andi was kissing Brett though--he got Zombie-gray for a bit there, though of course recovered. However I think they're both confusing what she draws upon. She's drawing upon a lifeforce, an energy (spirit is really what I would call it)--I can't think that a sustained time period of her doing that to Brett would solve all the problems. At some point it would have to get detrimental to his health.

Though since Mia decided to be Dr. Mia and ignore common sense I'm sure there are other issues that will come out first.

also thank you for your well wishes on my post--I am better now, though my mother has not talked or called me since her party and I have it from my sister she is complaining once again of how un-filial I am.

shame on me for not remembering the Aztecs. (I'd just been talking about them about a Miami Medical WIP)

i feel worse for forgetting my favorite line from Ancient Egypt: "my heart, my heart, do not speak against me"...but thank you for reminding me of it.

thank you for the list of other heart-related ones.

>but a purely animal thing related to the fact they're wolves.
*nods* combined with the small community of the Gates.

> Obviously the teens could shrug off the mantle of rules
they're teens; the audience might be too confused to watch, if werewolf teens didn't act like their human neighbors.

> At some point it would have to get detrimental to his health.
*nods* I think they're going with the idea that werewolves have better immune/healing abilities (and more rapid ones) than humans do. ie Brett regaining his color and breathing after kissing Andie.

>Though since Mia decided to be Dr. Mia and ignore common sense I'm sure there are other issues that will come out first.
oh indeed. heck, when she took the Demon-weed medicine and then saw Charlie kissing Lexie, I wondered if we were about to see the violent side of succumbi.

>also thank you for your well wishes on my post-
welcome.

>-I am better now, though my mother has not talked or called me since her party and I have it from my sister she is complaining once again of how un-filial I am.
tell her you're on the verge of becoming a Senator, but interuptions ruin your progress. :)
(in the old days, that was the measure of filialness - becoming a powerful Senator (possibly Emperor) and using that power to pay for family to be cared for in luxury)
