Silence on V-E Day

Jun 07, 2010 03:10

Yesterday I was helping mark the birthday of a close friend of mine (offline).

It was also the anniversary of the day that the Allied Forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France. One major step towards the defeat of Nazi Germany.

And many who survived Victory in Europe were aware they would be sent to man the next invasion: Operations Coronet and Olympic. The invasions of Japan.

So let us mark right now - whenever you read this - as a moment of silence in respect for those who fell in the line of duty on those beaches or on any other beaches. And let the moment of silence be also for those who survived the beaches.

Thank you. Thank you all. We cannot thank you enough for all you have done to keep us safe.
