There are days when Annabeth wonders if her mother - Athena, goddess of wisdom, battle strategy, knowledge, and all combinations thereof - is impatient to get a grandchild. First there was how Mom had turned a blind eye to Annabeth's dating Percy Jackson in high school and college, which was suspicious (given Mom's feelings regarding anything even peripherially connected to Poseidon), but okay.

Then, on her twentieth birthday, Annabeth runs into Dean. Literally, as they both arrived in a town which was ground zero for two dogs that hate one another - Ceberus and his two-headed canine rival Orthus.

Annabeth had seen promise in Dean that had taken far too long with Jackson - a firm grasp of manuvers and weapons useages, among other things. He's got a good head on his shoulders, Annabeth had thought, not that the shoulders are anything less than good.

Now, after a year of on-again off-again fighting monsters and demigods and demons together, the two of them still practice their moves with such speed and ferocity that Sam often asks them 'you sure you're not fighting for real?'

"Glad I met you," Dean tells her again, one night, after a bout. The adrenaline, the rush and the muscle memories and everything else - next to all that, sex is an afterthought...but one neither has an objection to.

Annabeth meets his eyes. "Even with me being the daughter of Athena?" she asks.

"Law of averages," he teases her - there was bound to be a good god sooner or later.

"I'm not a god."

"You'd make a great one," Dean tell her.
