He could speak her language, but she won’t let him.
Sayid knows Korean, can speak it well enough. Not flawlessly, but enough that a man of his stature and color can pass for a naturalized citizen; and he has.
Sun slapped him the first few times, which was enough to relay the message: don’t remind me. Of Jin. Of what she’s gone through. Of everything and nearly anything. It’s all too raw for her.
Sayid knows raw all too well, knows how it hurts.
When the longing gets too much, and only when its unbearable, does she come to him. More for the shoulder to cry into than the other physical comforts; Sayid understands, and welcomes the human contact.
What Sun wants, Sayid gives. He’d give her Jin, if he could. Even though Sayid would lose her just as he’s growing attached to her, he’d do it.
