thoughts on "Screamers: the Hunting"

I is disappointed.

The good news is, we finally have a sequel in our hands.

The bad news is, they aren't Screamers.

Starring Lance Hendricksen and Gina Holden.

The movie is strange even in the effects and backstory arena: they name-drop folks from the first film, like Hendricksson, a lot - Gina Holden's character is his daughter.
(and her nightmare makes no sense - unless she has retrograde genetic memory, or the Screamers universe secretly has telepathy)

And yet there are none of the Screamers or other SWORDS in the film - not even a deactivated SWORDS prototype or one of those "reptiles" from the first movie.
(though if you've seen the first film, you can pretty much say with accuracy just who's a Screamer and who's human)

The good news is that we finally find out what happened to the survivor of the first film - and, at risk of spoiling you, the worst case outcome is dangled in front of us as the credits begin to roll.

About all I can say about this movie (aside from how radiant Gina Holden is), is that the people who made this movie, clearly have seen too much of the modern Battlestar Galactica and Terminator....and got the wrong message from both shows.
(not least of which is that you don't give a depressing ending to a blood-rich movie just because you think its edgy)

the first movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114367/
