I don't know if this is proof that the English are made of sterner stuff...or if the guy's a bit touched in the head (wrong expression?)...

in tonight's football game of Hull vs Middlesborough, Digard had to leave the field because he had blood coming out the corners, top, and bottom of his eye...they wrapped his head in gauze -- and sent him back on the field!

I kid not.
