1. The Paladin -- Even the stand-alone novels of CJ Cherryh are excellent, and this is proof of that. Set in a setting not dissimilar from Warring States-era China, the title character is a warrior named Saukendar - one of the highest in the Emperor's elite unit - who chose to become a hermit (by the name of Shoka) after the death of his wife. Enter Taizu, perched on that fencepost between teenage and woman, and entirely focused on getting revenge. The story is fun to read, and forces character development (always with a reason, never out of nowhere) on all the characters, even the bit players.
2. Patrick Harper -- Richard Sharpe's best friend. Its always fun to watch all the Sharpe movies from beginning to end, so we can watch them go from being mistrustful (and distrustful) of one another in Portugal, to guarding one another's backs and venturing all the way to India to make sure the other one isn't really dead.
3. Pepper Potts -- a veritable saint for being able to put up with someone like Tony Stark in the movie Iron Man. A super organizer and a quite rather good poker face help her survive in the world of cutthroat politics business dealings. Being a genius, all that comes naturally to her.
