Very interesting use of the anomalies! I'm surprised we haven't had more AUs in the fandom.

its not easy, and that might be why.
(we've had crossovers aplenty)

True. And people might feel that the show gives them varied settings without going down the AU route.

...and some consider s2 to be AU, at least a little.

(besides, in a full AU, one has to make entirely new characters and give them histories, rather than simply using the ones in canon)

I wonder how we'll view S2 with the hindsight of S3 *g*.

I don't know that you always do need entirely new characters in AUs. The other fandom I'm familiar with, The Professionals, has a lot of AUs, as fans seem to like taking the two secret police heroes and dumping them in other worlds. Quite often other cast members accompany them! But there's certainly a proportion of AUs that *do* build up a new supporting cast.

yeah, there's a spectrum...from on-screen AHs (Connor's friend is shot by Ryan in 1.04) to off-screen AHs (Nick, not Helen, is gone for 8 years), to mixed AUs (half the cast goes to America to help them with US Anomalies) to free AUs (nobody from Primeval, just the Anomalies, elsewhere)
