RANT: "Star Trek" Metaphors in Politics vs. First Contact
I just wanted to go retro to the 1980s and post "What's on Your Mind" by Information Society. It was uploaded to YouTube on 2/27 of 2007 exactly 8 years before Leonard Nimoy passed way on 2/27 of 2015.
Spock is heard in the song saying "Pure Energy" which Wikipedia states was taken from Season 1, Episode 26 "Errand of Mercy."
Spock promoted the theme "Live Long and Prosper." The episode was about a seemingly primitive race of people living on Organia that was on the fringe of Klingon and Federation territory. It turns out that the Organians were actually an advanced race.
The great thing about "Star Trek" and "Star Trek: TNG" is that it analyzed problems in today's society and translated them over to other worlds or alien planets that were suffering from similar issues or embroiled in politics that humans went through in the 21st Century.
Here's something that I think Trekkie Fans should wrap their minds around. I constantly read news about conspiracy theories that the U.S. Government knows about aliens and is hiding it from the public. People wish that aliens would make First Contact.
I believe that aliens have discovered our Planet and are observing us. However, I think the reason why they don't reveal themselves is because they see the barbaric and deceitful nature of humans.
I know optimists and idealists may take offense to my pessimistic view of human kind, but I don't think people have thought about the repercussions of aliens revealing themselves to us.
If you were an alien and wanted to make first contact with the species, you'd want to make contact with the most enlightened, wise, and educated part of that society. You wouldn't want to make First Contact with the most backward part of society.
Hypothetically speaking, if aliens made first contact, I would think they'd make contact with the United States. I realize it sounds pro-American, but the U.S. represents human freedoms, women's rights, and animal rights.
China is a World Power, but the reason why I claim aliens wouldn't reach out to China is because of all the Chinese Hackers. Once the Chinese feast their eyes on alien technology with weaponry and armor, those Chinese Hackers will be like kids in a candy store. They'll make it their mission to crack the alien database to get their hands on that Intel
If aliens did make First Contact with the U.S. and our government promised a peace treaty of not taking alien technology with weaponry and shields, the U.S. would be criticized by China, North Korea, Russia, and the Middle East. Even if the U.S. assured their diplomats and the United Nations that the U.S. is not accepting alien technology, those other countries will accuse the U.S. of lying and hoarding technology.
Those other countries will view the United States and its "alliance" with aliens as an attempt to "enslave" the rest of the countries in an "evil" Democracy and "poisoned" by Western Civilization Ideals that is an offense to the Flying Spaghetti Monster or whatever deity they worship.
Then there's also military and corporate greed. Even if the U.S. has a public policy of respecting aliens and not taking technology or stealing it, there will be military corporations secretly bidding top dollar for any spy or hacker that is able to get their hands on alien information and technology.
If humans ask for aliens to give them technology and aliens say no because they believe that humans are too "young" to be in possession of deadly weaponry and space travel technology, the powers that be will incite the (ignorant) masses using scare tactics on the public saying that aliens are here to enslave our race and that we should rise up and steal their technology and not let them capture us.
It would be like the United States entering Iraq in the name of peace but really with a hidden agenda for something like oil. That would be politicians convincing the American public that aliens are a threat and to fight them off, but the hidden agenda is to have an excuse to take alien technology "legitimately" and with the "approval of the people" even if it turned out the aliens were really peaceful and were just expressing concern.
There have been reports of UFOs and silhouettes of spacecraft the size of Jupiter seen near the Sun. I've claimed that if you actually look at the calendar dates of when UFOs will surface on the NASA satellite radar, they surface on very specific dates tied to human history.
I claim aliens do it because Earth is a Super Computer as depicted in "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. It follows an operating system. If aliens can develop technology where their spaceships can travel 400,000 miles/second, then I think it's safe to say that they must be really good at math, science, and computers.
They would already know that Earth is alive and a Super Computer because they know that their own home planet is alive and a Super Computer. I claim the best place the look for clues about an encrypted data stream or algorithm would be in the Periodic Table of Elements because the Atomic Numbers for elements are consistent throughout the Universe. It's a number system.
If you're were visiting an alien race's home planet and want to find out about them, get a hold of their Periodic Table of Elements. It will be to learn the alien number system and know what elements there are and the names. It would also indirectly show just how advanced the alien civilization is with use of microscopes and powerful lenses. If their Periodic Table of known elements is less than yours, then your race probably knows more than their race.
The point you can make about the math system is that if you can flush out a pattern of calendar dates when UFOs are spotted, then it's hinting that the alien race that has discovered us is indirectly showing humans that they respect out "mathematical laws."
If an alien race was really going to take over the Planet Earth, why would they spend so much trouble adhering to our calendar date system and only create visible UFOs on designated dates of human importance? They could have just taken over Earth long ago. Who cares about a primitve human math system?
I claim the reason why aliens respect our math is because their home planet that is alive was just like a mother telling her children that when you go out into the galaxy and run across other species to play nice.
I would claim those Jupiter-size orb silhouettes seen near the Sun are the equivalent of Galactic Police Cruisers for the Milky Way Galaxy version of the Federation of Planets.
It's not that aliens don't want to reveal themselves. It's just that they're waiting. They're waiting for humans to "grow up" and take responsibility for their own shortcomings.
North Korea refuses to own up to what it's doing. The Middle East refuses to back down. Russia denies what it's doing in the Ukraine. Even the United States has its problems with corruption, but at least it's the "least corrupt" for the size of the country and the population.
Countries can't even be honest with each other. So how do you expect them to be honest with aliens? Humans can lie to each other and destroy the Planet, but once humankind steps out of our solar system and starts interacting with neighbors in our intergalactic neighborhood, all that lying ain't gonna fly. Human selfishness and greed leading around the well-meaning (but ignorant) by the nose will spark an intergalactic war.
Klingons are symbolic of the worst traits of human impatience and anger, which is how a lot of people are today. Then you've got the sly political types who are calculating Romulans as politicians.
While some of you may think this is just a long spammy post, I claim that this is Leonard Nimoy's final legacy as Spock. He was half-human and half-Vulcan. It was about combining the best traits of human emotion and logic to create a well-rounded person who knows when to be logical, but also when to be passionate and feel.
I wish Trekkie Fans would start applying what they know about Star Trek to the real world. If the United States is a starship, then Homeland Security would be the Shields raised to maximum while the U.S. is taking a pounding. The U.S. has been redirecting power from Life Support and other parts of the ship to keep the Shields up.
After years of keeping the Shields up to max, the United States as a starship is starting to run out of energy (money). The trillions of dollars being sent overseas to manage the Middle Eastern conflict for a war between factions arguing about stuff that should've been settled in the 17th Century is sucking our finances to where we can't even provide proper health care or Social Security benefits to the elderly.

This song is even more poignant and meaningful to me because the song was uploaded on 2/27 of 2007 exactly 8 years before Leonard Nimoy passed away 2/27 of 2015. The following day news reported music artist Alicia Keys showed pictures of her child Genesis. Spock died in "Wrath of Khan" saving the Enterprise from the explosion of the Genesis torpedo Khan detonated in a last ditch effort to destroy the Enterprise as it was trying to limp out of the blast radius. Leonard Nimoy passing away following the images of Genesis as the child of Alicia Keys is almost like Spock passing away before the release of Genesis in the movie. It's like an example of Life imitating Art.
