I've been mulling over your Riddle a bit. This is what I can make of it.

The Alarm Clock isn't for waking the man up. The Alarm Clock is for warning the man that by a certain time something is going to happen by that time sort of like a warning.

It's a warning that if something isn't done by that time, something bad is going to happen.

In regards to how he died, I would assume that the act of killing himself wasn't suicide but as a result of Negligence. It would mean that he did something or he didn't prevent something in time that resulted in his death.

The other thing I've been thinking about is the possibility that the Light Switch may refer to Pilot Light on a Stove. The other possibility is that the Light Switch, which gives off electricity could've sparked an explosion that caused a gas leak in the room to ignite.

That seem to fit why the man died. If he was sleeping, He may not have been paying attention to his surroundings.

Another thing about certain types of gas is that it can cause people to black out. So it's possible that he may have fallen asleep because drowsiness set in from whatever gas leak or poison was in the air.

That's why they encourage people to keep air circulating when you're painting so that the gas fumes from the paint don't go to your head. You have to aerate the room else it could create a work hazard.

There are cases where people are operating heavy machinery or they're in hazardous work conditions where losing consciousness can result in death.

If the man in this scenario was cleaning out his oven or engaging in some act where flammable gas was being released, all it would take is an electrical spark or some form of intense heat to light that gas causing the room he's in to explode resulting in death.

If you watch certain Action/Adventure Movies, they show where the villain releases gas in the kitchen and it's set up so that the unsuspecting victim will enter the home and turn on a light that will spark the gas creating that explosion that is powerful enough to kill the house's occupants.

Tell me the Answer your teacher gives when you find out. I want to know, too :).
