[ The first thing anyone hears is the world's quietest cheer. Yay.
This is soon followed by more light and sound as the video starts rolling, showing Applejack facing off against none other than Violet's very own bird user, Falkner. ]
I just got one thing to say to you, mister. I got an Ampharos-but I ain't gonna use him.
[ Instead, Winona the Eevee steps up, tiny, with her fur whipped by the wind. Falkner raises a brow, but shrugs, as if to say, 'as you wish'. He releases Noctowl, and the battle commences.
Winona lets the Noctowl dive close enough that she can kick sand up in its face. Disoriented, the bird flaps a few times before Winona's tail is in its beak and eyes, making it back up further. Finally, Winona bounces back, crouches, then springs, colliding head-first into Noctowl's chest. The bird goes down, Winona landing triumphantly on top of it. One down, two to go, and the whole exchange lasted barely a minute.
Another very quiet cheer. Yay.
Falkner's look of doubt has morphed into one of disbelief. He releases Honchkrow, who isn't going to be intimidated by some tiny Eevee-that is, until she raises her hackles and snarls at him. He makes a swipe at her with his wing, almost hesitant, but she dodges, nimble and quick. In a leap she's on him, biting into his back, neck and wings. The bites have little effect but to annoy him though; Honchkrow lifts up and spins, causing Winona to lose her grip, hanging on by her teeth as the bird tries to fly her off. Applejack is following the scene with narrowed eyes, trying to figure out the bird's pattern. Now's too high, now's too low, now's not close enough-!! ]
Winona! Now!
[ Winona lets go, letting the bird's momentum carry her. She tears through the air, shooting towards the wall at an alarming pace. Honchkrow gives chase, ready to finish her off. At the last moment she twists, using the wall as a springboard to bounce back and launch herself at the larger bird. It's a risky move, but it works, because when they both land, Winona's the only one standing. ]
One more to go! You can do it, girl!
[ By now Winona's breathing hard and is a little scratched up, but she can totally handle a Pidgeot. After all, she did just take out two birds three times her size.
Pidgeot emerges. He circles lazily a few times, instead of diving in the way the other two did; he seems to be taking stock of both Winona and her trainer. Winona watches him warily, crouched, ready to spring. Applejack is addressing her pokémon, leaning forward, eyes also riveted to Pidgeot's slow wingbeats. ]
Wait for it...just hold on, girl...
[ Pidgeot dives. Applejack smirks. She's won this. ]
Go!
[ Winona takes off like a shot. Pidgeot screeches to a halt mid-dive, trying without success to trap his tiny target in the twisters his wings are conjuring up. Winona is moving fast, moving diagonally towards the gym wall, the climbing it, little legs pumping at breakneck speed. Both of Falkner's brows are hiding somewhere in his hairline now. Applejack grins, swelling with pride. ]
Winona's giving it all she's got! Put 'em up, girl!
[ Pidgeot turns just in time to receive an Eevee to the head. With a base power of 140, the move called 'Last Resort' hurts. Winona lands, crumpling but not knocked out-unlike her opponent. Applejack is the victor.
Applejack runs over to pick up her fallen partner and hug her tight. ]
Yee-haw! You did it! I'm so proud of you, girl!
[ A slightly louder cheer: yay! The feed is off in a hurry as Fluttershy and the other ponies go to congratulate their friend. ]
