Summary: Alex has just moved for the last of many times to Dulaney High school. He has decided that this is the year and school that he will try and become "popular" but if that happened would it be a bad thing? And will finding a new friend, that may think of him as more, also affect it?....

Masterpost Chapter Thirty-Three
Josh walked through the party, dancing along to the beat of the generic pop song blasting through the insanely expensive speakers. Hayley had asked him to get her another drink and he was making his way to the kitchen to do so.
He himself wasn't really in the mood for drinking. He realised that he hadn't really got drunk in a while, it just hadn't had any appeal to him lately. He promised himself that at the next party (he was "popular", or course there'd be a next party) he would actually get drunk.
As he continued to head towards the kitchen, trying to remember what way that it was, it was a huge house, he noticed that a bunch of people were scrambling to get out of a room.
This peaked the English boy's interest. He walked over and saw that the people were all wide eyed and looked freaked out. 'They're probably all just jacked up on coke' he thought. But then he saw Kellin walking out briskly with Vic. He was really curious now, those two were some of the top "populars", the head haunchos, the ones that were never freaked out. If they were walking away looking freaked then there was definitely something up.
Josh looked around and noticed that no one else gave a second glance to the group, everyone was either too drunk, or just didn't want to care.
The English boy stood outside the room for a moment biting his lip and thinking about what he should do. Finally, he decided that he had to go inside. If he didn't and then later found out that something really horrible was going on that he could have prevented then he was going to feel really guilty.
He sighed, pushed through the crowds of humans, and opened the door. It was dark in the room and at first he thought that it was empty. He strained his eyes and after a moment, when his retinas got more used to the change in lighting, he could see a large lump on the floor. His eyes widened and he frantically started to look for the light switch.
Suddenly, he found it and the room was filled with light. He gasped and covered his eyes with his arm, the brightness hurting his newly-accustomed-to-the-dark eyes. When he was sure that he could take it, he moved his arm and looked around, back at the big lump.
As soon as his eyes focused on it, thanks to the sufficient lighting, his heart started to beat really fast and he gasped again, this time in fear.
He was instantly glad that he'd come into the room.

"I told you. I don't know why he's unconscious! I just found him like this! COULD YOU STOP ASKING ME POINTLESS QUESTIONS AND JUST SEND A FUCKING AMBULANCE? ISN'T THAT YOUR FUCKING JOB!?" Josh swore and clicked off his phone as soon as the idiot told him that they were on their way.
He looked back at his unconscious friend. He bit his lip. "God, Alex. What have you done to yourself? Just wait until Jack finds out. You're so dead!" He gasped at what he just said and spoke again rapidly, "I mean, um, no. Not dead. You're going to be fine. I mean, I mean....you are fine! Fucking hell, Alex..."
The dark haired boy tugged his fingers through his hair. After another quick glance at the other boy he picked him up and started to walk towards the front door.
As he walked outside the room and through the party he saw that no one even cared that he was holding an unconscious person in his arms. No one even looked the slightest bit worried or concerned. It made Josh almost physically sick.
He saw Hayley on his way out and in a lovely change from all the others, she gasped and choked out, "What happened? Is he okay?"
Josh tried as hard as he could to not yell in her face. He wasn't angry at her, he was just stressed. "I don't know. But I'm on the way to the hospital. I'll call you when I get there and have more information."
The redhead nodded and watched Josh walk out the front door, limp Alex in his arms.

When the ambulance finally came Josh had to argue with the hospital people again, just so he could ride in it. Apparently, if you weren't family you weren't allowed in. Well, Josh wasn't having any of that and demanded that he go too. He was vociferous in his defiance. Eventually, he won over them by saying that he was already in the vehicle and Alex needed to be at the hospital. Now.
The people in the ambulance stopped fighting and resignedly let the English boy do what he wanted.
It took them twenty minutes for the van to get to the hospital and Josh was fidgeting the whole time. He kept looking over at Alex and then out the window fiercely as if by his will the car would automatically be where they needed to be.
When they got there they wheeled Alex out as fast as they could, someone coming out specifically to make sure Josh didn't follow. The man was built like a brick and the dark haired boy knew it was useless to try and sneak past him.
~
He was pacing the white waiting room. Back and forth, back and forth. The smell of antiseptic pierced his nostrils and burned. Josh was sure that even when he left this building of white the smell and the feeling it brought would follow, if only just for a little while.
He continued his walking. Back and forth, back and forth.
Alex had been in the Emergency room for about twenty minutes and Josh still had no idea what was going on, or what had happened to cause the blonde to go into that state.
He could guess though. He wiped his hands across his face and groaned. Fucking Alex. Why did he have to be so stupid?! This was just waiting to happen.
Josh then had a thought that made him stop walking. Jack. Should he tell him? He had to. The Lebanese boy would be furious if he hadn't been told. It wasn't too late, only about ten, the other boy would be awake.
The blue-eyed boy gulped, he got his cell phone out of his pocket and dialled the number. He stood there, his palms sweating and anticipating a freak out, as he listened to the ring. After only two rings Josh heard Jack's answering machine.
Josh swore under his breath. Of course he wouldn't pick up. He left a message quickly explaining how he'd found the blonde, how he didn't know how he'd got that way, and how he was now in hospital. Josh hung up after saying which hospital they were in then put his phone back in his pocket.
He sat down and sighed, he was now suddenly exhausted. The night had been too eventful for his liking.
After sitting in the seat for only ten minutes, he stood up and resumed his pacing. Sitting still was actually unbearable.
A short while after Josh began to pace again, a tall man with really poofy hair, for some reason, wearing a bow-tie in a hospital, and wearing a long doctor's coat, walked towards him.
The blue-eyed boy was slightly shocked to hear that this doctor had an English accent like him, but wasn't completely blown away. He had bigger things on his mind.
"Mr. Joshua Franceschi?"
Josh bit his lip, then answered, "Yes? What's happening? What's wrong with him? Is he all right?"
The doctor (he still hadn't told Josh his name and was holding a clipboard in front of his name tag) replied with a chuckle.
"You humans, so many questions. Yes, yes, he's fine. He had a drug overdose, cocaine, and it's heavier than a normal overdose because he was intoxicated at the time. Alcoholic beverages and drugs, bad mix. Don't even get me started on that time I was on Raxicoricofallipatorious and-well, never mind, not important. Alex will be staying here for a few days, but he's stable. And he will recover."
Josh sighed, this man was a bit strange, but he seemed to know what he was doing, even if he was playing with his stethoscope with wide eyes as if he'd never seen one before. But the important thing was that Alex was going to be okay. For now, at least. When Jack found out what had happened, he'd probably kill the blonde himself.
The blue-eyed boy looked back up at the doctor, "Wait. Shouldn't you call his parents? I mean, I would have but....well, to be honest, I've only just remembered."
The doctor looked up at him with a smile, "Already done, my man! They're in with young Alexander now! I've got things covered. I'm a doctor, you see." And with that the strange doctor spun on his heels and walked off back down the corridor.
Josh sank back down into his chair relieved. He sighed again. Everything was going to be all right. That's all he had to hear. He looked at his phone and saw that at this hour he most likely wouldn't be able to see Alex anyway, it was only family visiting hours.
He stood up and started to walk out. The hospital was only a short walk to his house so he started off in the right direction.
He took out his phone again and called Jack one more time. He was really tired and just wanted to go to bed.
The Lebanese boy didn't answer once again, so Josh left another message.
"Hey Jack. So, Alex is stable. You can probably visit him tomorrow. Or wait, no, Monday. I'm pretty sure they don't have visiting on Sundays. Um, but anyway. I just thought you should know. He's gonna be fine."

A/N: This wasn't too eventful, but at the same time it kind of was. Please excuse any reference to any science fiction show that may happen to be in this chapter (and future chapters). I couldn't help myself. And in my defence, it's one of my favourite shows.
