Ohana

Ohana is Hawaiian for Family. It sounds crazy, but I think that's one reason I like H50. I have this incredibly overwhelming desire to have a family. I love the idea that Steve, Danny, Kono, and Chin can be a family even though they aren't really related. (Okay, I know Kono and Chin are, but you get the idea.)

I wish that were true in real life. That you could form a unit of people who care and who accept each other even though they aren't legally or biologcally or whatever related. That's really the only chance I have at a family.

I have friends who are great. But when it comes right down to it, they are "family first." As in, their real sisters, mothers, nephews, blah, blah, blah. Oh, they are there when they don't have any family obligations. When they need something, they turn to their family. Even though I would love to jump in and help. And I often try to. A friend had major surgery a couple of months ago. I offered to drive her to any doctor's appointments. The reply was, "No thanks. My sister/brother/father will do that."

So I will live in my H50-induced daydream that you can form a family from a ragtag group of crazy people. A repressed SEAL, a gesticulating Jersey transplant, a surfer-turned-cop, and a guy who is....wait for it....incredibly loyal to his family! Both families.

personal thoughts, hawaii five-0
