Masculin, Feminin

I love foreign films. Always have. When I was in high school I even snuck in to see "Queen Margot." I also like older foreign films. When I lived in Chicago, there was a Hollywood Video a few blocks away. Last June I believe it was, I got a membership and started renting all sorts of movies, especially old French movies. I would even do a little research beforehand to see what was worth seeing because I didn't wanna be that blind going in, you know?

Off the top of my head, I knew that Godard and Truffaut were particularly esteemed, so I checked out a buncha their stuff. I had already seen some of their films like "Weekend" and "The 400 Blows" and had different reactions (the former was really absurd and bizarre and I still don't know what to think but I loved the latter) but still wanted to see their other work. So I got "Band of Outsiders," "Breathless," and a buncha others. Some I like. Some I don't.

I've always thought my peers' (especially girls) obsession with the French and France was a little silly and I still maintain that, but I hafta admit that, aesthetically, France in the 60s is amazing. Well, to me anyways. The cars, the cityscape, the fashion, the penchant for intellectual conversations, the style, the girls. Oh man, the girls are gorgeous. I mean, I guess from a scientific point of view, our natural looks don't really change from one decade to the next, but superficially everything changes. Here's the trailer from "Masculin, Feminin" - you'll see.
