(Look, Scheiny! I'm actually posting it in the right place! :-P)
Okay, here's my review of last night's goings on...
Most likely because of Black Friday, the cast had to face the challenge of what was easily the smallest audience yet; by the time 11:30 rolled around, the audience was actually startlingly tiny, but thankfully, a few more handfuls of people wandered in over the next 15 minutes or so. I was eager to see their reactions, as the percentage of virgins seemed very, very high - one family in particular caught my eye, as they had no knowledge whatsoever of what RHPS was about, or any part of the theater experience. I made sure to keep watch on them throughout the show; while part of me expected a walk out, I ended up being pleasantly surprised. More on them later. :-)
As usual, the cast set-up was different than previous months; most notably, Frank was someone I hadn't seen before (Jordan and Miriam were both sadly absent), as was Magenta, who was brought in from... Maryland, I believe? Both were welcome additions, as both seemed very well studied in their characters. As for the regulars, Manni proved multi-talented again, this time playing Rocky - the THIRD role I've seen her in in just as many shows! Sean (who surprisingly swapped roles with Sheffo, this time appearing as Eddie) served as the MC in
Jordan's absence, and did alright, though he seemed a little confused when trying to remember all of Jordan's usual schtick; next time, I should volunteer to give it a go - I've pretty much committed it all to memory, unfortunately! :-P (Hero worship, perhaps???)
The movie went off flawlessly; the lack of thrown objects was noticeable, thanks to the large amount of virgins, but the callback level from the more experienced audience members was high. The virgins seemed to have a great time - ESPECIALLY the family I mentioned before. They actually stayed for the entire show (with one of the sons being unknowingly dragged into "Fake An Orgasm"), and the dad seemed to find it particularly enjoyable. Hopefully we've converted them, and we'll see them again in the future! I just hope everyone else who came out and braved the cold enjoyed the evening as much as I did.
My only real gripe was the print of the film - this one was *awful*, with a very dark, dirty picture and a severe skip that knocked out a verse of "Eddie." But, as the copy the Oaks holds seems to change all the time, I'm not too worried; I'm sure we'll see a better one in the near future.
Overall, the post-Thanksgiving show was well worth the trip!
(On a final note, was Brinley unwell? She didn't seem quite her normal energetic self; if she was, I hope she feels better soon!)
