Rand (The analysis firm, not the publisher) has compiled a list of the top 50 books for "Thinking About the Future Human Condition".

Basically, they wanted to find and acclaim the books of today that, in 50 years or so, will still reign true about the direction in which we as a species are headed. For instance, Orwell's 1984, written in 1949, eerily and accurately predicted the state of the contemporary world in which it was set. Though 1984 does not apply to Rand's compilation, since it is not a modern work, it still contains the guiding principles set for Rand's list.

I was a little disappointed that "The Past" section did not include Ishmael, or even A Short History of Progress (see previous post). However, the theories and lessons are there in the ingeniusly titles "How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed".
