Livestalk

I'm starting work on a new site. It's still massively atomized, the concept of the site is currently geared more towards liberal values, and as far as solid content goes it's absolutely up in the air. But I have a name... a name, and a logo.

It's called "The Common Stalk", and as I have no way to upload images as of yet, you'll just have to trust me when I say the logo is top notch.. for me.

Believe it or not, the name has an origin:

In Greek Mythology, Prometheus was the creator of man. When he and Epimetheus set out to make creatures to populate the earth under the orders of Zeus, Epimetheus went with quantity and made many creatures, endowing them with many gifts that were alloted to the brother for that purpose (fur, claws, wings, and fins were some of these gifts). While his brother was making creatures, Prometheus was carefully crafting a creature after the shape of the gods. It was a human. However, Prometheus took so long in crafting his masterpiece that when he was finished, Epimetheus had already used up all the gifts from Zeus. Prometheus was sorry for his creations, and watched as they shivered in the cold winter nights. He decided to steal fire from the gods after Zeus disagreed with his idea of helping the humans. He climbed Olympus and stole fire from the chariot of Helios (or, in later mythology, Apollo). He carried the fire back in the stalk of a fennel plant, which burns slowly and so was appropriate for this task. Thus mankind was warm.

And so the stalk still burns, fraught with knowledge and mystery. It is this pre-enlightenment mythological sense of divine knowledge that helps to shed light on the very visceral and often overwhelming deluge of information we are faced with every day. The story of Prometheus helped to plant the seed in the back of our newly developed minds that we are worthy of such deific luxury as fire -> agriculture -> globalization. We've been preordained to inherit and rule over Zeus' world and everything in it.

But as any wise person knows, this sort of thinking is driving our existence straight into the ground, and the rate at which it's happening is becoming staggeringly break-neck. "The Common Stalk" is aimed at providing an open forum for debate, information-sharing, constructive criticism, unabashed inquiry, and sense of global concern. No issue is too small to attend, no issue is too big to leave room for further probing.

The problem is I think the site I want "The Common Stalk" to be is such a massive undertaking, and so requires foreign thinking to get it to mesh that I don't think I can really do it alone... how am I supposed to focus my limited ability to organize anything into an already daunting task?

I can write, that I know... about what, I can figure out... but it's the congealing cause that is supposed to stand behind and stitch together one's life work that I'm having a hard time understanding. Either that third-party hasn't found it's way into my life yet, or I haven't been chasing it long enough to gain any retrospect.

Whatever the situation, I just hope I can still my mind long enough to fall asleep, because I'm going to bed.
