Another day, another adventure...

Choir was canceled today, and I had nothing else to do, so I decided to have an adventure. This might not sound like anything big to some of you, but I had never done it before, so it counts. Basically, I got on a bus (without knowing where it was going) and just rode around. Maybe not the smartest idea, as I ended up downtown at the bus station- but it all worked out. Hopped around for a while, got Megan's b-day present. It was nice to regain my transportation independence. On the way home, I got on with two homeless guys. I wouldn't have known they were homeless until they started talking, but I did listen to what they were saying, and it made me think. As one of them pulled the bible out of his backpack, it amazed me how he talked about God, and his faith. Funny how those who you would expect to be the most bitter about God and life in general seem to always be the ones with the strongest faith. Or how the man at the soup kitchen gave my mom a "letter from Jesus". It seems so backward that these people who have nothing are more thankful to be alive than people who have everything, and are always complaining. It makes me realize once again that no matter how critical I am of people who claim to be christians by using the bible to justify discrimination against others or for their own personal benefit, that there are people out there who just genuinely believe in something better. Maybe it's because they have to, I don't know. As they were talking (they had just met) they were saying how they were all alone, and everyone whom they thought were their friends abandoned them as soon as things got rough (having no money or jobs, their marriages falling apart, etc), and that you know who your true friends are because they stick around when things get hard. Although I had sympathy for these guys, all I could think about was how lucky I am- I'm fully confident that no matter what, there are a number of people who would always be there. And I hope those people have that same confidence, because I will always be there for them. Ok, end of cheesy thoughts.

Spring Break!!!!
I am so ready and excited!! Catherine just called me from Palermo, and I will be home tomorrow afternoon. So far on le schedule we have "the hills have eyes", dinner with Mr.Keogh, and the first performance of this band that I hear is completely amazing- maybe you've heard of them?....Grinstead? Probably throw in a few random outings, a trip to Pres, and I'll be set. It's raining outside, I've got one last homework assignment to do, but the spanish techno is playing and megan will be home soon for her b-day celebration (I got her Grey's Anatomy, season 1). Also got some pictures developed today- see facebook. Love you all, and can't wait for this week!!! In the words of MB- hell yeah! Love love love- Alex
