Every now and then certain things bring out the inner nerd in me. I was browsing CNet for the CES 2007 coverage. While looking at the winners for various best in show categories I stumbled upon the Best in Emerging Technology. The winner was Powercast. Basically it is technology that uses RF signals to wirelessly power and charge various electronic devices. Imagine the possibilities. Instead of having to deal with plugs you could just set your laptop on top of a bad to have it charged when you go home. Wireless keyboards and mice would never need charging docks and batteries. Cell phones could just be placed on a night stand and not be tied to a wall. Right now the range of the signal is a meter or so, but if they manage to make the range great that would be amazing.
