Something for the Bad Days

Dear Self,

You rock at your job.
This is why;

1. "You know my name!"

2. "You're the first teacher to get my name right!"

3. "Your class is my favorite!"

4. "These are my two favorite teachers, right here"... *wraps an arm around both me and Kellie*

5. What sorts of things are the 'Joy' of LLT 6th graders' 'Desiring'?
"Music class!" (also listed are pie, sporks, oxygen, 7th grade Science, books, education and, well;'Jesu'!)

6. The number of hugs received in a day- anywhere between five and fifteen

7. Me: Nice haircut!
Child: You're the first person who noticed!

8. Me: It's (name), isn't it?
Child I Met While Running Detention: Yeah. We don't get to take your class.
Me: There's always a chance the schedule will change up next semester and you will
Child I Met While Running Detention: Really?!

9. The problem child that got up and sang expressively (if mildly off-key) on a completely voluntary spur-of-the-moment whim and later on brought in a drum on which he played a complex series of rhythms using three contrasting timbres

10. The dozen or so drawings collected on my back wall by mid-November of my first year and the two homemade flowers adorning my pencil bucket

Add to This:

11. *Child wraps arms around me and says to peer* "She's practically my mommy. Can I call you 'Mommy'?"
11A. The child who wanted in and now calls me "Mommy" as well

12. The student who was upset about her beginner musicianship next to her experienced peers and buried her face in my shoulder to cry... and I sent off with the promise of a re-written part and somewhat higher spirits.

13. The student who was forcibly entangled in a drug-related situation and begged permission to leave her class long enough to come talk to me about it

14. The number of "above average" ratings on my evaluation from the administration, and their distribution across several areas

15. *Children running to catch me as I leave the teacher lounge* "We have your class next!"

16. The violin and jingle-bell eighth note Christmas ornaments from students that I then hung on the mini tree on my desk.
