I had come up with a theory for why musicians keep getting injured without meaning to. I have often wondered, 'why did I not realize that this was going to be a problem later, and stop playing?'
Because we are so used to adapting, we adapt to the pain. We practice that way, and so we perform that way. We develop injuries but practicing makes us sound better, and that's what's important, right?
I was reading an article that Professor Kessler printed up for me. I had told her about a book it was recommended that I buy, and she found an interview of this author online. He restated my theory almost EXACTLY and I got very excited.
"Sometimes playing with pain conditions your body to accept it as normal."
Additionally, he made me happy by quoting his teacher, who had told him always to mark things in pencil rather than pen, because;
"You never know when you'll get a better idea. And furthermore, always look for it."
