Reccer's notes: Dean/Benny is such an alluring pairing. I'm pretty sure Dean girls all over the place stood up and took notice the second Benny first walked onto the screen. I was looking for Dean/Benny purgatory fic and salty_catfish pointed me toward this and it didn't disappoint. The prose is perfect - tightly controlled, spare, sharp images and observations from Benny's POV. The way Benny sees Dean as he is in Purgatory is both accurate and insightful. It feels like canon Dean, and I think it also says something about Dean's relationship with Sam in a way that is both subtle and true. This is just very, very good fic.
[Short excerpt]The tension doesn't leave Dean after they meet and strike up a deal. Benny doesn't expect Dean to relax, but boy, is the man paranoid. Purgatory breeds paranoia and fear, but Benny senses a more personal story behind Dean's attitude. He wants to know, but he can't ask. Dean wouldn't tell him, anyway.
Benny starts thinking of Dean as some kind of animal, something lethal and unpredictable, cunning. A fox, with his sharp features and hyper-awareness of his surroundings. It makes him want to bait Dean, tease him and taunt him until that animal shell cracks and gives him a peek at the human under Dean's skin.
