Summary: Another day, another town; when their bounty hunter father enrolls he and Sam in yet another school Dean thinks this will just be another town he'll forget five minutes after he leaves it. Things get more interesting when Sam befriends a classmate of Dean's and the lonely boy with the strange name and stranger family slowly gets under Dean's skin. Their new friendship gets complicated when it becomes clear that Castiel's brothers aren't just strange, they're dangerous, and the secrets they keep and the sins they bury have a lot to do with Dean. It would all be bad enough even without Dean starting to worry that maybe friendship isn't all he wants.

A Dean/Castiel high school love story with fist fights, movie nights, make outs, broken hearts, hospital vigils and a steamed up hotel shower.

Reccer's notes: In honor of long weekend, I'm reccing a long fic. Generally speaking, I don't go for Destiel stories, unless it's set in a very alternate universe. So this one is a high school non-supernatural AU. But it gets the Winchester brothers so right, and the messed-up dynamics of Cas's huge dysfunctional family is something that I sympathize. John Winchester here, even though he only made one appearance, is rather a good guy. He is absent, for sure, and would have never won a father of the year award whatever universe they stuck in; but he also cares enough not to uproot his sons when he sees that they really really want to stay. And I love the soul-searching Dean's done at the near end. And the arts are stunning.

[Short excerpt]Sam's heart kept pounding until he saw them disappear around the corner. "Thanks," Sam said when the other boy crouched down to help him with his books. "I'm Sam."

"I know who you are, Sam," he said, that amused look on his face again. "My name's Castiel."

"Yeah?" Sam said, piling the books back into a stack. "What kind of name is that?"

That just made Castiel frown. "It's because I was born on a Thursday," he said, as if that made complete sense.

"Um...okay. I just never heard it before. I mean, is it religious, or....?"

"Is there something wrong with my name?"

"No! No, I didn't mean it like that, I just...." He sighed. "I was just curious. I used to have a book on names and where they come from, I like that stuff. I'm not usually this big a dick, I swear." He wrapped his arms more securely around his books. "Can we start over?"

Castiel did that head tilt thing again. "Of course."
