Summary: The apocalypse is over, and Jimmy Novak has cobbled together a life now, kind of. The last thing he needs is for Winchesters to come walking back into it. Yet here they are, Sam recovering from demon blood and Dean only recently angel-free, looking for refuge and other things Jimmy doesn’t know how to give.
Reccer's notes: Jimmy's voice is amazing in this piece. It's the slow unwrapping of his grief and his anger. It's tantalizing bits of the apocalypse after Dean said yes, the sort that give you enough to get it but leave enough space that if feels huge and real. Lovely writing and beautifully paced.
[Short excerpt]Jimmy’s given up on normal, on safe, and still the shock when Winchesters turn up on his doorstep again is like a blow to the chest. The doorstep is metaphorical, of course. Jimmy’s cot is one of dozens lining the walls of the shelter, and his doorstep is simply the invisible boundary that separates the office - a closet with a desk - from the pitiful masses beyond.
