Summary: In 1941, while the world is at war, Sam Winchester falls in love with his brother. They're young, they're in love, and in spite of the hardships of life around them, the world is a pretty good one for them. Until Dec. 7th, 1941, when Japan launches an air attack on Pearl Harbor, sending the US to war against Japan. Dean Winchester feels he needs to join the Army; needs to help fight the good fight and help save lives. He promises he'll return, but can he keep that promise?
Reccer's notes: This is potentially my favourite non-hunting AU fic ever. It's set during WWII to a beautiful background that you can just tell has been researched in depth. Many of the character dynamics still stand, with Bobby acting as a father-figure to Sam and Dean, both of whom still adopt roles very similar to those we are used to in the canon of Supernatural. It's beautifully written with a whimsical yet gritty feel - a perfect contrast in just the right places.

5/2 - It's your birthday. First one I ever missed. You know, I still remember when you were born. Dad took me up to the hospital to see Mom, and we stopped by the nursery window. There were five babies in there, all swaddled up and yelling their heads off. Dad held me up to the window, and even though we weren't supposed to, I tapped on the glass. You turned your head and looked at me and stopped crying. Just looked at me. I'm pretty sure I lost my heart to you then. I don't ever want it back, either, okay?
