Summary: Their lives these days are reminiscent of grim sand-stained fairytales, and Dean would rather populate a greasy, noir suburbia-- Sam Winchester knows.
Reccer's notes: And when the author says "sand-stained fairytales," they mean the Maghreb. Is your curiosity piqued yet? I was sold on the first line, and then to hell and back again. This fic envisions a wildly imaginative aftermath to 8x23. I'm endlessly fascinated by the setting the writer brings to life here, both in term of post-canon and in terms of place. The sand, the lush (perhaps an ironic adjective in this case) description of the Winchesters' new home, their habitation of it, the strange circumstances with the Pit and the monters Sam has taken to naming... The way the fic builds on 8x23 and fashion new plots from where Castiel, Crowley, Abaddon, and the Winchesters left off is enviable--arcane without feeling ludicrous, magic and fairytale without being trite. And Dean's blunt, understated additions within the narrative--I don't know what I can say except name it and then proceed to bask it. And at the end of it all, the fic comes home in ways that very, very few pieces do.
