dear hippie babyboomer mom,
i apologize if i was rude to you, but please do not act so offended when i tell you that the seating in my cafe is for customers only. you may have missed this, because you were busy trying to get him off the table that he was standing on, and then i had to pull his hand out of the toaster, but i explained that that is what the kitchen/dining room downstairs is for. i understand that for whatever reason, you want to keep your ten year old child "in close proximity to bed, so that he feels close and can go to sleep easier", but the cafe is for people that are buying food for, not people that just want to use it to setup their child's new cell phone.
i found your insights that "the world is not made for children" and we would be better off if there "were parks everywhere" interesting, though i would like to point out that the hostel, where we are, is in the middle of a three acre national park, which in turn, is right on the pacific coast, which you can actually see, from the cafe. i am saddened that we were unable to continue that topic of conversation, due to your child climbing on another table and hitting my television, repeatedly, yelling for cartoons (i might add that that television does not have cable, so you might let your child know that the major networks do not, in fact, carry cartoons at 9 at night).
so here are a few final thoughts, and feel free to talk to me about them, sans child. i realize that you probably believe that societal hierarchies and boundries are inherently wrong, but some social norms are good. like the ones that say that its not ok for a fourth grader to be running abound a cafe, screaming at the top of his lungs. now, you may say that its an artificial standard, but i think that a kid that is recieving a cell phone should know that its not ok to try and throw a toaster to the ground.
i hope that through this, we can come to an understanding, and work on it. i appreciate that you bought an apple, for fifty cents, so that you were then a customer, and able to do your business within the cafe. thank you for your understanding.
yours truly,
ian
ps actually, i just hated your kid, and if he pulls that shit again, i will cut the fucker
