I completely forgot to mention that, last Friday, I went to my first bar.

Yes, I know! Exhilarating news, non?

Tiffy had to go up to Neale Woods for astronomy extra credit, and I volunteered to tag along, because no one should brave the scary drive all on their own and because I regretted not being able to look through the telescopes when I went, back in October.

Well, this time, the sky was clear (and cold)! There was hope! Tiffy used a GPS navigator anchored to the windshield that her dad had bought her, and "Karen" (the robotic female voice) told us exactly the way to go... except we went a few miles further north and ended up on a dark, nameless, wooded street in the midst of a great deal of Fuck-All. "Karen" demanded we turn left... into somebody's driveway. At this point, a big screw-you was said to "Karen," who frantically began Recalculating as Tiffy turned around and we made our way back to the last Neale Woods sign we saw. "Karen" was unabashedly triumphant when we reached our destination on our own. Cocky little bitch.

After paying in the main house/building/thing, where a bunch of small turtles were crawling around on the ground and getting their exercise, we were directed to go out a back door and navigate a snowy, icy, frosty narrow path with no available light but the stars. I kept crashing into Tiffy ungracefully, because I kept ending up tromping through slippery snow, and we finally walked single-file the last few yards to a solitary roofed structure. It looked like a very small house, with a triangular roof and wooden walls, and it was open all through it. I was very scared, since the floor was covered in more potentially slippery snow and it was pitch-black inside, but it was only an 8' walk. Then we were in a walled-in, roofless enclosure with a pair of binoculars and four massive telescopes trained on the stars. That Guy Who Teaches Physics was there, explaining to the assorted crowd of little kids, parents, college students and any others who were interested what each telescope was pointed at. After making the rounds, I was talking to That Guy for a while, since I am slightly geeky about astronomy, and asked if any planets were out.

Of course, that made him all eager to find Saturn, as it was just rising, and Tiffy and I waited, losing progressively more feeling in our extremities (her toes and my nose), for them to find it. After about 15 minutes, it was just TOO DAMN COLD so we stopped at the constellation platform (basically an octagonal wooden deck with A Guy telling stories about constellations with a green laser pointer) and then decided to head back to the car. Quickly. Before our limbs fell off.

We picked up Destiny and headed to the next hip happenin' of the evening, Saddle Creek Bar. I have to see 4 shows for Music, as you recall, and Tiffy, who is wiser than I about local shows, found a couple of bands who were playing down there that night. Our intent was to see one called Eagle Seagull, whose Myspaz didn't overwhelmingly offend me, but we ended up seeing Kite Pilot instead, as they came on first. Their set went from "mediocre" to "please get off the stage ASAP," but we clapped anyway.

That was after there was a bit of trouble with the bouncer over Destiny's ID, as it still said she was under 21, despite her birthday being a few weeks prior. She got it explained, though, and we gained entry. I'll say this now: Bars are underwhelming. Seriously. It was a dark room full of smoke and neon beer signs, and lots of sticky booths and tables with half-full plastic ashtrays on them. We waited at least 30 minutes for a band, any band, to come onstage, and I had earplugs in because I'm a pansy and I started feeling worse and worse from the massive amount of secondhand smoke. I always feel like my noise-and-smoke tolerance is much higher than it really is - I'm ridiculously fragile. :P

Anyway, it was amusing despite all this, just being there, but we all elected to leave ("I CAN'T BREATHE." "WHAT??" "I CAN'T BREATHE." "I'M HUNGRY." "WE SHOULD LEAVE!" "WHAT??" "LET'S GO!! *points frantically at door*" "OKAY!!") for Village Inn, the promised land of all-night meals and tacky atmosphere! From there, we dropped off Dessy and then Tiffy dropped me off at home around 12:30 AM. It was a good time, but I went straight to bed, as it was just too much Fun to handle. Fun and Smoke.

Dessy gave me Smeg's and my Xmas gifts, too! She got me OK Go's Oh No, which is a fantastic album, and earrings and tea. <333

Oh, and those posters from PushPosters finally came the other day, so I get to slap Bernard Butler and Muse on my walls once I get frames for them. I've gotten strangely paranoid/classy with posters since I painted my walls. I bought the last Bernard poster they had, too. Tee hee.
