SO, promised birthday entry! Without pictures, because my lazy ass hasn't gotten them off the digital camera and resized them yet. :O
As I said last post, I had a lovely 18th of December this year - I actually woke up around 11 AM, because Toby wouldn't let me sleep any longer. Bitch. Upon going downstairs, I was greeted by a lovely and colorful array of presents, with a centerpiece I shall never forget: a yarn sundae.
It truly was a sight to behold: Smeg and Mom bought a red plastic mixing bowl (I can always use those!) and giant red cooking spoon and filled it with 6 bundles of neon-colored yarn, some Special K bars, and a topping of glitzy eyelash yarn tied with pink ribbon. It was adorable. :D <3!
Then we went to the grocery store! Always a fun birthday pastime. I was glancing at a display and I saw bottles of PINOT GRIGIO WINE for $4. It was too magical to resist (for those not in the know, in our Zelda play, for reasons I never quite understood, the King was going under the strange pseudonym of Pinot Grigio), so I got a bottle. More on that later.
Later, we went to get Destiny for the par-tay, and on our way back, we went to a dollar store and stopped in Hancock Fabrics, where some gift wrap and (more!) yarn were obtained. Smeg bought me a skein of fuchsia yarn and some acrylic purple purse handles that I'm going to fashion into a really great pink/purple bag - I'm still designing it in my head. Then we stopped at The Jumble Shop for about 2 seconds, just to see what it was. The Jumble Shop is just a thrift store/secondhand place. It's really shitty and 80s in there. D: We came out with nothing.
The festivities began at home! I opened my presents, Mom served an amazing chicken and mashed potatoes dinner and I blew out my candles on a homemade chocolate cheesecake all in one burst of air. Among the things I received:
- 3 necklaces: one superlong gold chain with plastic gemstones all along it (prettier than it sounds; I'm wearing it now), one gold necklace with an orange pendant and THE RAINBOW THAT GOT AWAY. THE RAINBOW THAT GOT AWAY is an absolutely beautiful silver necklace with a rainbow sapphire pendant in a double-rhombus shape. It r0x. I have wanted it since last Christmas, when it could not be found!
- 2 tops: a blue puff-sleeved T-shirt with silver stars across the front, and a short-sleeved red knit sweater with pretty cables
- a purse! It is corduroy in multi-colored stripes of the brown/purple/gold/green range, with faux leather decor/handles
- a book about TEA which has a Union Jack on the cover with a bowl of tea leaves in its center :D
- Pirates of the Caribbean II: Dead Man's Chest on DVD!!!!!
- a blank book with rainbow squares on its fabric cover
- a knitting book called Dominitrix!
- several boxes of tea!
- a box of Ghirardelli chocolates
- a mug with rainbow stripes
- a DISCO TREE, which looks like a discoball in a cone shape with a clear glass knob at the top. It is about 1 foot high and it is currently holding 3 plastic bangles on my dresser.
- a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle with the nighttime skyline of Hong Kong on it, because I like cities. Very pretty!
- blue glass/metal disc earrings
Smeg put several presents inside other presents, which was really fun. I love how she wraps gifts. Thank you, Smeg and company, for a great birthday! <333
Mom went to bed early, as did Dad, and we three girls watched Mean Girls and knitted. After that ended, I thought it was time to break out the chilled wine and cheesecake. It took us way too long to open the bottle, then I poured half a wine glass and took a brave swallow.
It was immediately deposited into the sink. Holy fucking GOD, I knew it was cheap wine, but I didn't know it was made from the rotten fermented carcasses of Satan's young!! Jesus.
I took another drink, just to be in the spirit of 21-hood, and managed to swallow it, but my esophagus felt like burning for several minutes. I let Smeg and Dessy try it, which they did with some trepidation, and they also didn't take in as much as I did. They were less than pleased, so we stuck a cork in the bottle and put it back in the fridge for my Dad. My dad actually LIKES it, and said it's a good dry wine and it's a brand so it's not really cheap wine. Whatever, it tasted like poisoned glue.
But the cheesecake was fantastic!
Dessy, Smeg and I went to bed late and went to Borders yesterday before taking Destiny home, where I got a thing for Mom and a thing for Smeg and a card for Dad's birthday (Christmas Day). I'm so excited for Christmas!! Presents!! Cats eating ribbon!! Cookies!! It'll be awesome. :D
Today, we went out shopping with Mom, mostly to go to Dad's favorite train store and buy some thing he picked out for himself. At SuperTarget, I went to the booze aisle to try again - I got a four-pack of very girly-looking pink wine coolers that are Strawberry-Passion Fruit. I told Mom their alcohol content and she laughed at me (5%).
I've been drinking one, and while it's not sink-in-close-range bad, it's not good, either. There's still this vague burning hatred seething in its juicy midst, and it leaves an aftertaste I shall liken to old feet.
How the fuck do people drink this crap long enough to get drunk? Christ on a unicycle, is it bad. I give up.
