Okay, this morning, I was in a sort of tired, achy mood and when I came outside to go to school, there was a Jim Esch sign on our lawn, and all the other lawns had signs, too. Thinking that the government had invaded some personal property right by planting signs everywhere, I ripped it from the ground and pitched it behind one of our bushes. I HATE CAMPAIGN SIGNS.
And then Smeg told me, once I was done with my shenanigans, that Jim Esch had actually come to the door and asked Dad if he could put up the sign and Dad said it was fine. Oops.
I just went to look up his page, and I was sort of okay with him, because he seems hip with the times and anti-Lee Terry, but I had to go see his stances on abortion (which I wobble on, but I definitely don't want to outlaw it - I just don't know where the cutoff point should be or in what circumstances it's okay. I do NOT think that you should have to raise a baby given to you through rape. Nor should you bring a child into the world that you don't want and won't put up for adoption, and if they are going to have a painful and crippling life through some form of serious disease/condition (cystic fibrosis, etc.) WHY PUT THE CHILD THROUGH THAT??? wow, I guess my views are more concrete than I thought! I also definitely believe in birth control.) and 'marriage' and I slammed my mouse down when I saw that dreaded phrase:
I believe marriage is between a man and a woman.
WELL. Thank you for your backwards opinion. All that phrase EVER says to me is 'I believe black people and white people need separate bathrooms, and THAT'S OKAY ... as long as they're, y'know, equal and everything. That will surely make everything goddamn peachy and the negroes won't be hatin' because they understand that they cannot mingle with the Caucasian folk!'
FUCK.
YOU.
SO.
HARD.
UP.
YOUR.
FILTHY.
TIGHT.
ASS.
This is why I avoid talking about politics whenever possible. >( But whilst all this crap is going on, we may as well indulge.
Feel free to enlighten me; dictionary.com refers to the Bible where this definition of marriage is laid out, but it also refers to couples in general and same-sex marriage. Then, for 'marry,' it has "5. to take as an intimate life partner by a formal exchange of promises in the manner of a traditional marriage ceremony." And the etymology of the word doesn't seem to imply 'man' + 'woman.' I want exactly what straight couples are getting. I don't know why that's so unreasonable!!
What do you guys think? Should I be okay with civil unions, or is this separate-but-equal thing really a throwback to the problems blacks, Native Americans and women faced in the 1900s? I can't believe it's 2006 and we're still debating who gets what rights and how much they're allowed to have based on stupid superficial characteristics or basic, intrinsic aspects of the person, and by intrinsic I mean CANNOT. BE. CHANGED. Just another 'fuck you' from me to anyone who's a proponent of finding the gay genez and killin' them lolz.
