jesstherainbow: oh
jesstherainbow: remember that omaha poem that was total goofy crap ?
jesstherainbow: he took it seriously
Cheshworth: ...
Cheshworth: *Dies*
Cheshworth: Did he like it?
jesstherainbow: 'Football - state-wide pastime of watching people run on Astroturf.' and he says "I love the absurdity of it, put this way."
jesstherainbow: he did!
jesstherainbow: what the fuck
Cheshworth: well what do you know.
Cheshworth: Looks like you can write poetry after all.
Cheshworth: That's fucking fantastic.
jesstherainbow: and 'This poem makes me awnt to become a plumber' got "Great line - title?"
jesstherainbow: 'The city is like a rash that slowly spreads
The city is like a burning piece of grass
The city is like a toothbrush on a hill' got 'nice list - more!'
jesstherainbow: i am seriously..i don't know. i'm awestruck
Cheshworth: A TOOTHBRUSH ON A HILL.
Cheshworth: Nice list!
jesstherainbow: at the bottom he said 'A loving portrait it is not - but I like the tone, the jumble of sensations. Now work on a language-level to make it more poetry than prose.'
Cheshworth: Oh my god.
Cheshworth: I think you just won college.
Let it be said: I am enjoying the last book we're reading for writingz class!! It reminds me so much of Salman Rushdie's writing and that makes me glad. It's called A Thousand Years Of Good Prayers and it's a collection of stories by Yiyun Li. I recommend it.
I dragged myself out of bed at 1:45 and got to school just after 2:30 to work in the library with Nate on finding sources for our debate. It was SO BLAZINGLY HOT in there. It was a beautiful day, and I thought I might actually be cold because I wore a lacy sort of sweater thing, but I was boiling all day. DX Anyway, we found sources - 24 in all, most of them being the same ones used to educate ourselves on the original debate. Then we walked in the insanely high winds to debate and sat there talking to our opponents and then writing after they left. He got kind of impatient and started playing with his box of cigarettes and asking repeatedly if I needed anything else. "Do you want to smoke?" "YES." "I'll be fine. I can call if I get stuck," and he tore off gratefully. I stayed until almost 6 and I got everything written out except for "Inherency!" So I'll type that up and polish it sometime this weekend.
WTF? I just noticed LJ got a Random New Feature, the "Current Location" box. I guess that will ... maybe not be handy at all, since I talk so much in my entries that I'm bound to say where I am at some point.
I wrote two 3-4 page response papers for last week's reading, one on each writer, and they are scathing as usual. We've gotten a critical essay assignment and I'm thinking about doing mine as a comparison between Salman Rushdie and Yiyun Li, since writing about any of the other four books would make me go crazy. Between turning those papers in, writing up the whole debate in 2 hours, cleaning out my closet last night, and finishing my afghan in the early hours of the morning, I feel hella accomplished!
AND IT'S SO HOT. D:

P.S. - Teeheehee,
Bernard Butler got a MySpace and he added me back after I found it and added him. Best thing that ever happened to me on that stupid website. I am such a 1053|2.
