So yesterday was the Home Show. No, I didn't have a confrontation with E. Partially because it was just so nice to see her and partially because I was a bit nauseous.
Anyway, we went to see Vern's talk. He's all fresh-faced and charming and energetic, but he's no Frank. I'm sorry but Frank was so damn funny last year. Vern's a little more diplomatic. Someone asked what had happened to Gen and he said he didn't think he was at liberty to say. There were many of the usual kinds of questions about homeowner and behind the scenes stuff. One tidbit I found amusing is that, through the entire course of the show, all Vern's furniture has been built by the off-camera carpenter. He also said that this is his last year on Trading Spaces but he's going to be on Oprah tomorrow (Tuesday) and if he's allowed he might have an announcement. Someone in the audience shouted out "you're going to have your own show" and he was like "I did not say that." Which probably means that that's the case.
I got to ask him what, after being in so many homes, did he think was one element that most people ignore but which could really enhance the aesthetic of their home. He said he thought that people get too intimidated about making decorating choices and so play it safe rather than injecting personality into a room. Well, no one's ever going to say my home doesn't have personality. Then he went on to say, on a more practical level, that a room isn't just four walls - there's also a ceiling and floor so you have six surfaces you have to consider. Hmmm, I'm thinking I should do something with the ceiling of my bedroom (beyond all the splotches that wound up there when we painted the walls).
So, I already have one appointment made for someone to come out and give me an estimate for screening in my porch. I really have to make this a priority because when I think about having the ability to lounge out there with a book and some music and a frosty beverage and salty snacks, it makes me very happy.
Also - wheeee! David gave me Photoshop7! Wheeee! Now I can make all the icons I've been thinking about.
As of today, I'll be finished with the letter B in my cd listening. I need to come up with some sort of rule for dealing with a cd that sucks overall except for 1-2 songs.
