That's actually still bugging me, I've gone back and changed it to McCoy and gone back again and changed it back to Leonard. In the end I figured that he probably wouldn't think think of himself as his last name and it's written from his point of view, but I can't quite get used to it, after I've been calling him McCoy for years and years.

Heh, sorry for rambling. Thanks for your comment!

It's hard for me with the new movie, because what everyone would call each other in the old canon is obvious, in this there wasn't time for a lot of characters to address each other. Spock is Spock no matter who's talking, McCoy says Jim and Jim says Bones pretty much every time I'm pretty sure, but as for everyone else... I have no idea what new!Spock would call Kirk in casual conversation, though Spock Prime is obviously going to call him Jim - and there's probably a lot more I'm not even thinking of.

Kirk/McCoy is a pairing I'll look forward to! I have no idea how much it happened in the fandom before, but with the new movie it seems even more obvious to me than Kirk/Spock.

Yeah, it was interesting because I went in expecting to really get into K/S but left feeling really more interested in Kirk/McCoy, but, then again, I've traditionally been more interested in buddy slash than anything else and Kirk and Spock are not yet good friends in this continuum.

Same here! At this point in time it's Kirk and McCoy that are giving off the BFF vibes, though I'm sure they'll develop the friendship with Spock in any sequels, which'll be fun to see. It probably would've seemed forced if they made Kirk and Spock best buddies right off the bat, anyway, since their friendship had an entire television series and a bunch of movies to develop, previously.

Yeah, exactly, which is why Spock Prime/Kirk will be so interesting too because Spock has so much history with him but not the other way around!

The scene they met was just awesome. "I have been, and always will be, your friend." If I was the type to get misty eyed at a movie, well, that would've been the place. And then there's the fact that it's been so long since Spock Prime has seen his Kirk -- it was like there was so much to that scene, I loved it.

yeah, that seems to be the scene with the most fic so far. i think it's great to have kirk experience some representation of their epic love during the mindmeld.

Heh, yeah. There's really no way of knowing how much he knows from the mind meld, I wonder if he realizes that his own reputation is gonna be hard to live up to.

I think New Spock did call Kirk Jim once onscreen, but I have the feeling he'd be more reticent about using it than Spock Prime was by the time we see him, and say "Captain" most of the time. (Also, I'm definitely happy about the Kirk/McCoy that'll come out of this. I've always thought it was an underappreciated pairing, especially compared to Kirk/Spock and Spock/McCoy.)

Anyway, this is a wonderful fic! I love your Bones voice, and this is a great point about Jim facing the same situation his father was in. It adds a new dimension to his rigging of the test to avoid that situation in this universe.

Spock Prime called Kirk Captain a decent amount of the time, even when they knew each other quite well, so young!Spock will probably follow that. I can't wait to see them better friends, anyway, which is pretty much inevitable, with them working together and Kirk having won Spock's trust.

Thank you!
