Department Manager

Feb 28, 2006 00:28

I went into work today, and checked the computers in the office to see if there were any openings for department manager. Last week my friend Josh, who is manager of Furniture, said he was stepping down, so his department would be opening up. Furniture is cool, I would love to manage that department... Anyways.. so I look at the comp, and there is one listing for a department manager, without hesitation I applied for it. After that I noticed it was not furniture... but Hardware.. and I first thought I don't want hardware this sucks... but then I got to thinking about it, if I got the position it would expand my knowledge twice as much because not only will I learn to manage a department in a retail store, but I will also learn all about Tools, Plumbing, Paint, Ect. I think that would be cool. So I went to the manager over that department and told her that I applied, she will be interviewing me for the position sometime this week, maybe tomorrow.

My friend Dennis currently works in the sporting goods department, and the hardware department, and he was called by our store manager to come apply for the position cause she knows he's interested. So now I have competition from a good friend of mine for the same spot. He will probably get it because he already knows the department, and hes been with the company for 2 years, compared to my 7 months. Dennis would be the smart choice for the job, and as a friend I really hope he gets it, but at the same time, I want the job, so now we just have to play the waiting game. I have decided not to withdrawl my application, I want them to know that I am interested, so even if I don't get it, I will be considered for the next opening.

Furniture may still be opening, and I might be able to get in there, Steve the current hardware manager is moving to Food, and Kristal the current Foods manager we don't know where she is going, possibly to furniture, which will suck for me, and Josh who is stepping down will be moving to Electronics... so if I don't get to move, at least my buddy Josh will be working in my department. But that brings up the question how will that affect my hours? will I be closing all the time now, opening sometimes? I dunno.

We'll see, I will post any updates as they come in, stay tuned if you are following the Doug's Career 2006 show.
