Many of my favorite bands put out records in 2010; it now looks like 2011 will have most of the remaining favorites, and a whole lot of the second-tier acts that I follow but don't think of as my desert-island choices. I feel like, with the Strokes, that attitude is what you pay for. I don't know how rock critics would feel if the Strokes seemed like happy, well-adjusted people. I think part of the reason they get so much press is because, aside from sounding like Lou Reed, they're also kind of assholes like Lou Reed! (It's kind of that stroking nostalgia for something most people have never experienced thing.) And that's why we love them. Or, you know, continue to buy their albums and like one to two songs off of each of them.

There was a brief moment when I thought that Julian Casablancas had a sense of humor, because he was on that Lonely Island track and he did that "I Wish It Was Christmas Today" song (which I loved). But rock critics hate humor more than anything else, so I think he has to keep any chuckles on the down-low while the Strokes are stayin' together for the kids (rock critics).
