Like a final, fatal livejournal entry

So I wasn't particularly planning on seeing Los Campesinos! at Webster Hall on account of they don't have a new album, I've seen them earlier this year as well as last year, Webster Hall isn't as cool as the Bowery Ballroom, and when the date was announced I was still theoretically going to All Points West. But then APW fell through and Briana mentioned how she grew to really love a couple of their songs, and I couldn't very well not suggest going, so we booked it and after some schoolnight considerations, Marisa came on board too. Which is how the three of us wound up sweating it out in Webster Hall on a Tuesday, also because we are hardcore.

Highlights included Gareth pausing mid-song to, no joke, use an asthma inhaler; Tom the guitarist mouthing off repeatedly, including about how it's a relief to have the NYC gig out of the way around the beginning of the tour; and both Gareth and Tom diving into the crowd multiple times and performing from there, which, as in previous gigs, gave the show the feeling of them playing furiously until everything fell apart.

I strategically withheld my many complaints about Webster Hall from Briana until we were already there, but several of them wound up not even coming true. For example: we got out of there in about five minutes flat and no one was yelling at us outside the venue. Victory! That said, when I came home to the announcement that a Mountain Goats show is booked there for December, my first thought was: they'll play Brooklyn too, right? And they will, but it's at the Bell House, one of those places that vaguely annoys me because I don't really know where it is or what its deal is (it's less annoying than "Santos Party House" -- for some reason the very thought of this place is inherently irritating to me). Apparently it's at one of those G train stops that wasn't even a G train stop until recently. So it's out there. So I may have to suck it up and admit that the Webster show is many times more convenient. We'll see. I do give Darnielle and company credit for mixing it up, venues-wise -- each NYC visit seems to have at least one venue they've never played before.

Anyway, that's not until the end of the year, so the plan for now: take a shower, then get into the A/C room so fast that I become cold and dry for the first time since I left work.
