The whole album thing is definitely a new trend, and I'm a total sucker for it. As someone who usually most deeply loves songs that no one else ever likes (or that ever get played at shows), I find the whole album thing enormously appealing.
If I were a bigger Wilco fan, I would've gone to the the 5 night run they did in Chicago where they promised to play every single song in their catalog.

See, that's the rub. They never pick an album that's my favorite. Guyville is fine, but like you said I like Whip-Smart and whitechocolatespaceegg better. I barely listen to Perfect From Now On ever, let alone pay to see it live. The trend kind of sucks because it forms this little subset of concerts with people I find cool guaranteeing to skip my favorite songs.
