It looks like that second Liz show was announced and went onsale and sold out while I wasn't paying attention. Oh well. I hope she does an acoustic tour around the next album -- that part was actually way more exciting to me than doing Guyville (which I nonetheless listened to this morning). It actually sort of bothers me that fair-weather indier-than-thou fans who would probably never go see one of her regular shows flip out over this. It's not like she doesn't play most of those songs at her regular shows. Marisa mentioned that this album-show thing seems to have become more of a trend (especially in the wake of All Tomorrow's Parties which is usually based around a couple of those whole-album performances). How do people feel about that in general? Unless it's an album I absolutely love and/or rarely get to hear live, I'd usually rather see a mix of songs. But I'd buy a ticket to TMBG doing all of John Henry or maybe Built to Spill doing There's Nothing Wrong with Love (which comes to mind because they're doing Perfect From Now On at ATP)...

Sorry you missed it. :/ The first Liz show sold out while I was standing in Mercury Lounge... and even faster online. I think the Mercury Lounge box office reserves some tickets so that the people who actually bother to go down there don't get completely shut out. Especially since they can be a little bit on the slow side in terms of opening up, as they open up at 12pm, which is usually when the tickets go onsale. I actually ended up getting the last two Sigur Ros tickets there a few weeks ago.

The whole album thing is definitely a new trend, and I'm a total sucker for it. As someone who usually most deeply loves songs that no one else ever likes (or that ever get played at shows), I find the whole album thing enormously appealing.

If I were a bigger Wilco fan, I would've gone to the the 5 night run they did in Chicago where they promised to play every single song in their catalog.

Now THAT (the Wilco thing) is very appealing to me. Coverage of all songs ever sounds awesome. I'm definitely a sucker for rare songs but I'd rather see them mixed into a regular set. I guess I like the (potential for) unpredictability at shows, like the band is making a single-artist mix of themselves as they go.

See, that's the rub. They never pick an album that's my favorite. Guyville is fine, but like you said I like Whip-Smart and whitechocolatespaceegg better. I barely listen to Perfect From Now On ever, let alone pay to see it live. The trend kind of sucks because it forms this little subset of concerts with people I find cool guaranteeing to skip my favorite songs.
