I'm on Goodreads and all that (add me if you haven't!), but I mainly use it as a personal list-keeper and, via my friends' lists, reminder -- I haven't written many "reviews" on there, because that kind of thing usually goes here on LJ for movies and albums and stuff. In turn, I don't talk about books very often on LJ because it is by far the ( Read more... )

For another King book, I recommend "The Stand"--it's long but definitely his best work (at least up through the mid-90s, when I lost track.)

OMG, they're making a film of TTW? My reaction's the same as yours. I loved that book, there's no way justice could be done by an adaptation.

Finally: my aunt is reading a book in which the protagonist's name is Wynter. The spelling makes it even worse.

Hopefully the name isn't in the title, at least!

What gives me hope for the TTW movie is that it stars Erica Bana and Rachel McAdams... I think that's pretty reasonable casting, especially McAdams.

Eric Bana, I assume? Trying to picture a female Bana and ... nope.

I loved me some Zindel. "My Darling, My Hamburger" is maybe the best title ever. Also, I had both the Chocolate Touch and Chocolate War on my shelves, there is room in the heart for both!

I blew through much of King in middle/high school, when I read anything over 200 pages in the house; his novels go down super-easy, so I don't have a problem with him. He can be a little douchey, but I appreciate that he knows what he does and does it well.

Pick up "The Stand" for your next lengthy plane ride, and then follow it up with the 90s miniseries to watch that makes great use of Blue Oyster Cult and Gary Sinise both.

Oops, yeah, Eric Bana. Although I'm sure his twin sister Erica is lovely.

Marisa keeps trying to sell me on both/either version of The Stand... it'll happen eventually, maybe if I ever work through my ridiculous reading and/or Netflix queues.

I haven't read the book of the Stand, so I'm only trying to sell you on the movie, which rules. Excellent use of Crowded House's "Don't Dream It's Over."
