In fantasy series, I tend to like the crabby/sleazy/evil-but-not-very-powerful side characters the best. Gollum is my favorite in the LOTR series and Watto was one of my favorites in the new Star Wars trilogy (and the abundance of characters like Watto and Jabba the Hutt are why I will always prefer Star Wars to LOTR or Narnia or whatever).
