The test is over.

It's straight narrative time!

So, yeah, blackout '03, allriiiight. I was at my internship, and we thought it was just our building, 'till we saw the people walking en masse down Broadway, and even then, we figured, 10-20 blocks at worst. The landline at the office was down, too, and most people's cells weren't working, so it took us awhile to suss out what was going on. Eventually, we all took off, and I went downtown to Alison's house. I got info on the way from people with radios outside-- people were really chill, one reason we knew nothing super-bad was happening, looking out the windows, was that no one seemed to be panicking or looting-- go NYC, wooo! So I stayed at Ali's, played some Boggle and Scrabble (sucked ass at both), read some Dilbert, went to bed at like 9. The next morning, power in Manhattan was still on the fritz, but tha ill WC had it going on, so I trained it over there in the afternoon (I skipped out on work, which is half-days on Fridays in August anyway, and pretty useless without computers or phones).

I had different plans to see Freddy vs. Jason in Manhattan, but things got switched around for reasons both blackout and non, so Mar and I saw it in Ardsley with her buds. We couldn't get in till a 10:20 show, so Mar, Dave, Mike and I chilled at the theater at an hour, junior-high--era-style. Mike and Dave attempted to recap as many previous Jason and Freddy movies as possible, and did an admirable job. Then came the actual movie, which was good, but not great. It would've been better if all of the main characters were from Destiny's Child, and if the battles went on for like an hour straight. And a secret ending would've been nice. But: a satisfying moviegoing experience, most def. Then today we came back to the city (subways and stuff all running nice-like again, although grand central and barnes & noble are still lacking some AC. But that's cool, conservation and all, not that my AC isn't on right now :\ I get hot at night until like, November). We saw American Splendor, which people should generally see. Not as great as Ghost World (or X-Men, heh), but still pretty excellent. Mar thought it was depressing, but I found it sort of uplifting. Sort of. Paul Giamatti in an unequivocal lead role, how 'bout that. Based on the previews we saw in front of it, I think art-house coming attractions should just start saying "Hey old peeps, it's foreign, you'll love it!"... I don't really see the point of cutting a proper trailer for a "comedy" where you don't even attempt to show a funny thing in it, just really nondescript clips over praises from the New York Times. We wanted to sneak into Swimming Pool, but it's tough doing that at art places, both logistically and consciencewise. Plus, this way we got home in time to catch the rerun of Friday's Degrassi: Next Gen. They also should've been in Freddy vs. Jason, those Degrassi kids. Mar said Mike's friends call the chubby chick on that show "Fatty Degrassi." Insensitive, yet hilarious.

Tomorrow, perhaps I will clean.
