Screw the New York Times! I link to me and me alone!

This week I expound upon the merits of Beavis and Butthead. I had forgotten what a good show it is. For seriously! It holds up. Then I cough up a pretty meager column that touches upon a bunch of things I've probably kinda already said in my LJ. Oh well. I think it's because I used up all my oft-depleted observational skillz on an L Magazine piece about movie musicals and an even shorter piece on chick action heroes for the L's Holiday Film Preview. Those last few can be seen for free in glorious print all around our fair city.

Oh, and for a non-me link, check out the second in what's become a series: Kevin Wicks reviewing a movie that I haven't seen but still making me suspect that he's full of crap. It's not as bad (in either sense) as his Serenity review, but I was baffled when I read this sentence: "Silverman is actually in her 30s, but she clearly has no qualms about deploying herself as a tomboyish fantasy object for hipster dudes." Namely, I don't understand his use of the words "actually" and "but." Does he think he's running some kind of expose by saying that Sarah Silverman is "actually" in her thirties? As I note in my column, I've read at least three Silverman profiles this week alone, and I'm pretty sure they all mention her age (34). I think he's attempting to imply that she somehow passes herself off as younger (not really true) and/or that somehow this is done to (remorselessly! Without qualms!) win the favor of "hipster dudes" -- who would, of course, otherwise, not be interested... in a funny, kinda hot girl... because she's ... "actually in her thirties." Zer?
