I was on Facebook not too long ago and saw that the group of people I hung out with in high school are renting out a place and are having a Prom.

I haven't spoken with the vast majority of these people in forever, so I shouldn't care what they do. But this bothers me on a fundamental level. They are in their mid to late 20's, married, engaged, or ( Read more... )

Yeah, I agree with you. The last time I saw her was in 2006, right after I moved to NYC...she was "nice" enough to "let" me hang out with her and her "cool" friends at Columbia and we were going to this music festival. There was an incident on the subway, and a stampede (I shit you not), and i actually got hurt sort of badly (not requiring medical attention, but I was the only one in the group who got hurt at all...my glasses got smashed into my nose, I got a bloody nose, etc). I was really shaken up and she decided we should go out to a bar; I felt really uncomfortable being hurt and bloody and gross AND too broke to go out with these damned Ivy league kids to a bar (with their fake IDs!) where they barely spoke to me anyway. it wasn't cool. I finally said something like the bar was too upscale for me, but I think I was probably kind of a bitch about it, Casey got sort of mad and said I should stop acting like her friends were rich snobs (? i think? oh my god, I cannot BELIEVE how long ago this was...) ....I took a cab home that I couldn't afford, and I never spoke to her again.
It's sad, I remembered her being a pretty nice kid, but the last time I really spent lots of time with her was when I was a senior in high school and she was a freshamn and Mrs. Rudge sort of wanted me to mentor her.

It is awkward for me to think that my former "mentee" is way more successful at life than I will ever be. sigh.
